School Mourns Loss of Frank Morison '58
The Xavier community was saddened to learn of the passing of Francis J. Morison, Esq. ’58 on Feb. 15th.
Frank was the beloved husband of Ann and father of Jennifer, Francis, Jr. ’88, Mark, ’89 and Gregory ’96.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees from 1990-1998 and, in 2008, was selected by the Board of Trustees to serve as Interim President of Xavier upon the conclusion of Fr. Dan Gatti, S.J. '59's tenure. The diagnosis of his illness prevented him from assuming such responsibilities.
Frank was an alumnus, a graduate parent, a Trustee, Chairman and a benefactor of Xavier, and is a member of the Xavier Hall of Fame. His modesty never hid his love of the school, and his dedication was evident in all of the roles he performed during his lifetime.
"The first time I met Frank Morison was at a Soccer dinner in Larkin Hall in 1986," recalled Fr. Ken Boller, S.J., who served as Xavier president during the time Frank Morison served as board chair. "It was a pot luck supper and Frank was in the kitchen warming up the food and getting it out to the families. The encounter was typical of Frank's attitude toward life: The role you held at the moment, whether at the front of the parade or the back was not important as long as it was in service to the greater good. He had an outstanding and successful career as a lawyer, served on many boards including Xavier's, loved the opera and theater, but, first and foremost he was a brother, husband, father, grandfather and loyal Son of Xavier."
